Validation is the quality assurance process SQA uses to ensure all new and revised qualifications are valid, credible and fit for purpose. It is sometimes referred to as subject validation. With the exception of Graded Units, all other Units making up a Group Award are validated through a series of quality checks prior to the validation of the Group Award. Graded Units relate to the principal aims of the Group Award so their validation is addressed as part of the Group Award validation.
Group Award validation focuses on the justification for, and coherence and technical specification of a proposed qualification but also checks the proposal against a set of criteria 30 KB designed to ensure that SQA provision is fit for purpose.
The validation method used by SQA is determined by various factors including specialism, size and structure. As a general rule one of the following methods will be used:. Verification of the requirements would involve inspection reading and looking for clarity and completeness.
Note there is a subtle difference between SQA and SQC with regard to standards, SQC's role is in verifying the output of this process that is the Requirement document itself while SQA's role is to make sure the process including the use of the appropriate standard is followed correctly. Supportability, Adaptability and Reliability etc. The respective roles of SQC and SQA is the same for all types of requirement customer and product with SQC focusing on the 'internal deliverable' and SQA focusing on the process of how the internal deliverable is produced, as per the formal definition.
This process involves version control of the Requirements and the relationship between the Requirements and other work products. One tool used in Requirements Management is a Traceability Matrix. The Traceability Matrix maps where in the Software a given requirement is implemented, it is a kind of cross reference table.
The traceability matrix also maps which test case will verify a given requirement. SQA role To observe audit that documented standards, processes, and procedures are followed. SQA would also establish metrics in order to measure the effectiveness of this process. A common metric for measuring the Requirements Management would be the how many times the wrong Version was referenced. Another measure for the Traceability Matrix would be lack of test coverage, that is defects detected in the shipped product that were not tested due to the fact that they were not referenced in the Traceability matrix that referenced the requirements.
Traceability Matrix from this process and verify that all requirements were traced to a program or code reference. Solutions, designs, and implementations encompass products, product components, and product-related life-cycle processes either singly or in combinations as appropriate. Clearly testing the end product against the requirements which is itself a SQC activity will reveal any defects introduced during this the Technical solution process.
This metric is usually further quantified by some form of scope, for example defects per lines of code, or per function. The finished product does not have to be present before testing can begin.During this exceptionally difficult time, we are continuing to work hard on a number of scenarios to support you and your learners, including alternative arrangements for the certification of our qualifications and awards.
We will update you on these arrangements as soon as we can. In the meantime, we are making a change to our Candidate Evidence Retention policy. Our policy currently asks SQA approved centres to keep all candidate evidence for three weeks beyond the qualification completion date or unless contacted by an External Verifier.
As of Monday 23 Marchwe require that all centres must keep candidate evidence for six months after the resulting date of each qualification. We hope this extended time will allow us to complete the necessary external verification once travel and movement restrictions have been relaxed. We appreciate that this may present you with some challenges, but we believe it is the fairest way to ensure candidates are being assessed to the appropriate national standards.

Internal verification: helps to ensure that all staff understand national standards and can apply them facilitates collaboration between staff and with external colleagues enables and ensures fair, accurate and consistent assessment judgements supports the credibility of internally-assessed qualifications with parents, employers, higher education institutions etc.
Models of internal verification The model of internal verification used is at the discretion of the centre. There are three broad approaches: Lead Internal Verifier: responsibility is allocated to named members of teaching staff for carrying out internal verification of particular Units, as part of a peer-review process. The internal verifier will sample assessments marked by other assessors. Peer review: All members of teaching staff in a department taking responsibility for both assessing and internally verifying Units, as a peer-review process.
Single Assessor departments : A networking approach to internal verification, allowing professional dialogue and cross-marking between assessors in different centres.
